Fighting A Model Boat Fire – With Another Model Boat!
When the remote-control barge "Unfortunate" catches fire, the only thing that can save it is another remote-control boat! Watch as the R/C fire boat "Megawatt" tries to extinguish the flames with a real seawater pump and monitor!
ADDITIONAL INFO: Obviously, the "lithium-ion battery" cargo was no such thing - in reality, this was a simple balsa wood deckhouse we built with a rudimentary ignition system. It burned very quickly ... too quickly to extinguish with the "Megawatt" fire monitor, which was difficult to keep aimed at the fire because it tended to propel the "Megawatt" in reverse while in use! But at least we saved the barge.
We were careful to leave the creek as we found it. Only a few square inches of charred wood were unrecoverable.

Great little boat. What would be a maximum running time for your steam powered vessel?
The ambient temperature dictates the initial run time, as a sizable amount of fuel is needed just to warm up engine and its associated piping. The first run of the day may only yield around 5-6 minutes of steaming, depending on throttle management.. but after refueling and replenishing boiler water from a hot source like a thermos, up to ten minute runs can be achieved. Why didn't the rear section, that broke off, continue to float? It had so-called waterproof compartments and (by all accounts) was horizontal for some considerable time, before it sank. The "ice cube maker" scenario that caused the forward section to flood all the watertight compartments doesn't seem to apply with the rear section. From the look of the modelling, only one or two watertight compartment should have flooded with the rear part. Suggestions please.
